Three Minute Treacle

Around 1968 the world would be an alien place if today's young people hopped on a time machine and spent a while there. You know, no computers, no cell phones, networking, or internet. Color TV had been around for a few years but most sets were still black and white. Hell, stereo systems were so much of a recent phenomena that record albums still boldly claimed to be ~Stereo!~ on the jacket front. But we all had transister radios. AM ruled the roost before it turned into a vile talkfest swamp, and technology still had to play catch up to superior FM quality.

So everybody listened to AM music and young people were about to endure probably the most vile, but thankfully short, episode in american popular music history - Bubblegum.

Sugar Sugar - The Archies

It was the fluffiest, most repetitive and noisome crap imaginable. It was an invented style cranked out in an assembly line process and aimed straight at ten to sixteen year olds. You see it was a marketing decision. Back then if you wanted music to play at home on your phonograph you basically had three choices of speeds, all records, and turntables allowed you to choose between them. Pubescent kids didn't have the cash to buy more expensive 33 1/3 albums from established bands but would go and buy a cheaper 45 with a song on each side, so these execrable bubblegum songs would be cranked out on 45s, lots of times just manufactured by studio musicians.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy - Ohio Express

Truly simple, bouncy, childish music with those horrific melodies that make you wish you could wash your brain with bleach, these songs. I don't think for a second there was any groundswell of demand for them, rather they were forced on us all either as a vile social experiment or vicious pursuit of profit, probably both. The funny thing about these songs was that since youngish people were targeted the lyrics dripped with references to sugary food, I guess it worked. What compounded the agony was the tendency of pop/rock stations to do heavy rotation of their top 40 with these torture tunes liberally included, probably because some crook somewhere greased some palms to put them on the list.

Chewy Chewy - 1910 Fruitgum Company

To credit this contrived sludge as a a separate style a la acid, grunge, rockabilly or punk is wrong, oh so wrong in my opinion, and it's probably the only music you can say that about. It wasn't born from the ground up but forced into existence like a fat, constipated producer on the toilet. You can't really claim the "genre" left a legacy or influenced other styles, except perhaps later teeny idols mimicking the manipulative business aspect of the era, targeting the pimply crowd. I suppose one could make the case that it could be admired from afar as a case of successful hitmaking craft, but that would be damning it with faint praise anyway. The whole thing was constructed around the idea of selling records and churning the stuff out. Surf music, slightly older, was a brilliant gift to the world by comparison.

Fortunately the phenomena died a relatively quick death. The few bands that had actually formed to pump out this bilge were basically one hit wonders. The pubescents who got sucked into buying the 45s aged, bought drugs and started listened to the Dead. Society's mood changed and the taste for listening to chirpy nothingness over and over gratefully passed.
But of course, that void had to be filled. Then came Disco.

CIA Front Pretends To Be Outraged

Al Qaeda threatens France for perceived anti-burqa stance

"Al Qaeda threatened to "take revenge" on France "by every means and wherever we can reach them" because of a debate in France over whether the burqa, a traditional Islamic woman's covering, violates French law, according to a statement posted on radical Islamist Web sites.
"We will not tolerate such provocations and injustices, and we will take our revenge from France," said the statement, signed by Abu Musab Abdul Wadud, calling himself "commander of al Qaeda in North Africa [Islamic Maghreb]."
The statement is dated June 28, five days after French President Nicolas Sarkozy controversially told lawmakers that the traditional Muslim garment was "not welcome" in France."

The lost NASA tapes: Restoring lunar images after 40 years in the vault

And a week ago ballyhooed this pathetic shot as the first picture return from their LCROSS mission.

Now think about this image for a second. They actually released this photograph to the media and it's far worse than those taken fifty years ago by much more primitive technology. I take much better pictures of the moon than this with a cheap camera. LCROSS costs almost $100 million and all it will do is basically take some redundant imagery and then crash onto the lunar surface, ostensibly to "search for water". Which will, if it's there, immediately dissipate into the vacuum because, um, water disappears completely in a vacuum. But we're told the second half of the spacecraft will sort of fly through the debris cloud and see if it has to turn on it's windshield wipers.
Who cares. It's all window dressing anyway.

Operation Stabilize Drug Profits A Roaring Success

Cheap, plentiful opiates from Afghanistan and you've got a stranglehold on the market. Protected by american military muscle and well oiled by american tax dollars, using established smuggling routes from Tajikistan to Kosovo, and life is sweet.

Heroin prices

"American wholesale prices remain at around twice the level in Western Europe. The UN estimates that annual opiate production—almost all of which is from Afghanistan—jumped to about 8,900 tonnes in 2007, having been flat at around 4,500 tonnes over the previous decade. Seizures of heroin rose to 65 tonnes in 2007 but were still only a small fraction of global production."

U.S.-built bridge is windfall — for illegal Afghan drug trade

"NIZHNY PANJ, Tajikistan — In August 2007, the presidents of Afghanistan and Tajikistan walked side by side with the U.S. commerce secretary across a new $37 million concrete bridge that the Army Corps of Engineers designed to link two of Central Asia's poorest countries.
Dressed in a gray suit with an American flag pin in his lapel, then-Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez said the modest two-lane span that U.S. taxpayers paid for would be "a critical transit route for trade and commerce" between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
Today, the bridge across the muddy waters of the Panj River is carrying much more than vegetables and timber: It's paved the way for drug traffickers to transport larger loads of Afghan heroin and opium to Central Asia and beyond to Russia and Western Europe."

Police, Basij 'imposters' arrested in Iran

"Iranian police officials have reportedly arrested the armed imposters who posed as security forces during post-election violence in the country.
Iran's Basij commander, Hossein Taeb, said Monday that the imposters had worn police and Basij uniforms to infiltrate the rallies and create havoc. Taeb added that the recent anti-government riots have killed eight members of the Basij and wounded 300 others.
Iranian security officials --and in particularly the Basij volunteer forces-- have been accused of killing and injuring protestors who took to the streets to protest the outcome of the June 12 election -- which saw incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad win by a landslide.
“Basij forces are not authorized to carry weapons,” said Taeb, asserting that armed groups are the main culprit behind the killings.
Tehran Police Chief Azizallah Rajabzadeh has also insisted that his department had no role in the shoot-out that has become the focus of most media outlets in the West.
“Policemen are not authorized to use weapons against people,” said Rajabzadeh. “They are trained to only use anti-riot tools to keep the people out of harms way,” said Rajabzadeh. Last week saw some of the worst violence since the election after some 'terrorist elements' infiltrated the rallies on Saturday, according to Iranian officials.
The insurgents set fire to a mosque, two gas stations and a military post in Western Tehran, leaving scores of people dead and wounded."

Struggling cities cancel Fourth of July fireworks

"As the economic crisis has dragged on, city leaders around the country say fireworks are a luxury they can no longer afford. Big and small, urban and rural, the skies will remain dark over at least four dozen communities nationwide come July 4.
"It came down to this: Did we want to spend $150,000 on something that would be over in a few hours?" Cervenik said. "Or did we want to use that money to keep city workers employed?"

Israeli soldiers poisoned well in West Bank village, say local officials

"Israeli soldiers poured dirt, stones and toxic chemicals in the only well in the hamlet of Khirbat Makehl near the village of Yabad in the northern West Bank overnight on Saturday, according to Palestinians in the community.
The village's official representative, Walid Hamdan, said soldiers riding in three military jeeps entered the community overnight and sabotaged the well. The chemicals caused the water to change color and taste, he said.
The 80 cubic-meter well is the only source of water for the village of 70 to 80 families, Hamdan said.
He also said that, since the village lies near the Israeli settlement of Hermesh, the armed guards of the settlement often harass and assault Palestinians, particularly herders who venture near the edges of the settlement. Israeli forces also sometimes close the road leading to the community, preventing deliveries of food.
Hamdan invited human rights organizations to visit the community to see the situation there and ultimately put pressure on Israel stop the abuses in the area. He said the situation is "unbearable," and some of the local families have begun moving to nearby towns and cities because of these repeated attacks."

Executive Order Would Reassert Power To Hold Terror Suspects Indefinitely

"Obama administration officials, fearing a battle with Congress that could stall plans to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, are crafting language for an executive order that would reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely, according to three senior government officials with knowledge of White House deliberations.
Such an order would embrace claims by former president George W. Bush that certain people can be detained without trial for long periods under the laws of war."

My Trip To Neverland

By Paul Theroux

"I heard the news today, oh boy, that Michael Jackson had a heart attack – and died of cardiac arrest, at the age of 50, in Los Angeles. I am reminded of a long conversation I had with him at four o'clock one morning, and of my visit to Neverland. The visit came first, the conversation a few weeks later, on the phone.
Neverland, a toytown wilderness of carnival rides and doll houses and zoo animals and pleasure gardens, lay inside a magnificent gateway on a side road in a rural area beyond Santa Barbara. Nosing around, I saw pinned to the wall of the sentry post an array of strange faces, some of them mugshots, all of them undesirables, with names and captions such as "Believes she is married to Mr Jackson" and "Might be armed" and "Has been loitering near gate".
A road lined with life-sized bronzed statuary – skipping boys, gamboling animals – led past an artificial lake and a narrow-gauge railway to Michael's house. Neverland occupied an entire 3,000-acre valley, yet very little of it was devoted to human habitation – just the main house with its dark shingles and mullioned windows, and a three-bedroom guesthouse. The rest was given over to a railway terminus, Katharine Station, named after Jackson's mother, a formidable security headquarters, various funhouses, a cinema (with windowed bedrooms instead of balcony seats), and almost indefinable sites, one with teepees like an Indian camp.
And sprawling over many acres, the Jackson zoo of bad-tempered animals. The giraffes were understandably skittish. In another enclosure, rocking on its thick legs, was Gypsy, a moody five-ton elephant, which Elizabeth Taylor had given as a present to Michael. The elephant seemed to be afflicted with the rage of heightened musth. "Don't go anywhere near him," the keeper warned me.
In the reptile house, with its frisbee-shaped frogs and fat pythons, both a cobra and a rattlesnake had smashed their fangs against the glass of their cage trying to bite me. The llamas spat at me, as llamas do, but even in the ape sanctuary, "AJ", a big bristly, shovel-mouthed chimp, had spat in my face, and Patrick the orang-utan had tried to twist my hand. "And don't go anywhere near him, either."
In the wider part of the valley, the empty fairground rides were active – twinkling, musical – but empty: Sea Dragon, the Neverland Dodgem cars, the Neverland carrousel playing Michael's own song, Childhood ("Has anyone seen my childhood?…"). Even the lawns and flower beds were playing music; loudspeakers disguised as big, grey rocks buzzed with showtunes, filling the valley with unstoppable Muzak that drowned the chirping of wild birds. In the middle of it, a Jumbotron, its screen the size of a drive-in movie, showed a cartoon, two crazy-faced creatures quacking miserably at each other – all of this very bright in the cloudless California dusk, not a soul watching."

Empire Wants It's Drug Smuggling Haven Back

Key leaders of Honduras military coup trained in U.S

"At least two leaders of the coup launched in Honduras today were apparently trained at a controversial Department of Defense school based at Fort Benning, Georgia infamous for producing graduates linked to torture, death squads and other human rights abuses.Leftist President Manuel Zelaya was kidnapped and transported to Costa Rica this morning after a growing controversy over a vote concerning term limits. Over the last week, Zelaya clashed with and eventually dismissed General Romeo Vasquez -- who is now reportedly in charge of the armed forces that abducted the Honduran president.According to the watchdog group School of Americas Watch, Gen. Vasquez trained at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation at least twice -- in 1976 and 1984 -- when it was still called School of Americas."

The US used Honduras in the 80's as a base for it's Contra terror organization. The revolution in neighboring Nicaragua was posing too much of The Threat Of A Good Example to america's brutal client states, so the US started it's terror was against the Sandanistas. Murder and torture, abductions and assasinations became the norm. John Negroponte was the ambassador to Honduras at the time and supervised the death squads and massive cocaine shipments out of the Palmerola airbase.

Cop Who Brutally Beat Female Bartender Receives Probation

"Editor’s note: The judge in the case gave the lame excuse that sentening the sadistic cop, Anthony Abbate, wouldn’t prevent him from getting drunk and hitting people in the future. Abbate remains on the police force in Chicago, demonstrating that crime does indeed pay.
(WGN-AM)- A Chicago police officer was sentenced to two years probation Tuesday for pummeling a woman who was tending bar, even though prosecutors produced a previously unseen video showing him beating someone else at the bar hours earlier.
Anthony Abbate — who declined to say anything to the judge before he was sentenced — could have gotten up to five years for beating Karolina Obrycka in February of 2007. The attack was captured by the bar’s security camera and the video was shown around the world.
Judge John Fleming said he decided against jail time, explaining he did not believe the crime was serious enough and that throwing Abbate in prison would not be a deterrent to others."

Doctor Of Slain Iranian Girl Has Faulty Memory

Shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house

“A young woman who was standing with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij [pro-government militia] member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot [sic] at the girl and could not miss her.
“However, he aimed straight at her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim’s chest, and she died in less than two minutes.”

Shot by an armed man on a motorcycle

"Iran doctor tells of Neda's death
The doctor who tried to save an Iranian protester as she bled to death on a street in Tehran has told the BBC of her final moments.
Dr Hejazi also told how passers-by then seized an armed Basij militia volunteer who appeared to admit shooting Ms Soltan.
He doubted that he would be able to return to Iran after talking openly about Ms Soltan's killing.
"Anti-riot police were coming by motorcycles towards the crowd."
Dr Hejazi said he saw Ms Soltan, who he did not know, with an older man who he thought was her father but later on learned was her music teacher.
"Suddenly everything turned crazy. The police threw teargas and the motorcycles started rushing towards the crowd. We ran to an intersection and people were just standing. They didn't know what to do.
But later he saw protesters grab an armed man on a motorcycle.
"People shouted 'we got him, we got him'. They disarmed him and took out his identity card which showed he was a Basij member. People were furious and he was shouting, 'I didn't want to kill her'.
"People didn't know what do to do with him so they let him go. But they took his identity card. There are people there who know who he is. Some people were also taking photos of him."

America Has Different Physics Than The Known Universe

The Real Reason Iran Is On The Empire's Shitlist

Demonising Iran conveniently hides uncomfortable truths for the West

"Here's the nub of it. Iran opposes the US military presence in the region, and vigorously supports resistance to Israeli expansionism. On these two points, the Iranian regime is closer than any other to the true sentiments of Middle Easterners.
And this, fundamentally, is why Iran is imagined to be such a problem in the West: because it's a Venezuela or a Cuba of a country. Iran is troublesome not because it's any more obscurantist or dictatorial than its neighbours, but because it is less submissive."

"Give this to Republicans: They know how to conduct sex scandals in style.

Oh sure, Democrats have their sex scandals, but they're not nearly as interesting. For one thing, most Democrats busted in sex scandals aren't the same type of overbearing moral scolds as your average GOP politician. (The one recent exception was former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, whose work shutting down prostitution rings left him open to charges of bald hypocrisy when he was caught rendezvousing with a prostitute himself.)

Additionally, Democratic sex scandals tend to be of the more vanilla nature: affairs with campaign workers and interns are pretty standard fare as far as modern political culture goes, as are visits to high-priced call girls.

The GOP's deviants, on the other hand, have brought a wealth of oddball debaucheries to the table, from failed bathroom-stall hookups to slimy messages sent to underage congressional pages to rumored S&M diaper fantasies. So let's review the past 20 years of Republican sex scandals and rate each one on a scale of 1 to 10 based on factors such as hypocrisy, legal liability, the damage inflicted upon the perpetrators' careers and overall comedy."

What's The Real Agenda Behind Gun Control?

The Sullivan Act

"New York state senator Timothy Sullivan, a corrupt Tammany Hall politician, represented New York’s Red Hook district. Commercial travelers passing through the district would be relieved of their valuables by armed robbers. In order to protect themselves and their property, travelers armed themselves. This raised the risk of, and reduced the profit from, robbery. Sullivan’s outlaw constituents demanded that Sullivan introduce a law that would prohibit concealed carry of pistols, blackjacks, and daggers, thus reducing the risk to robbers from armed victims.
The criminals, of course, were already breaking the law and had no intention of being deterred by the Sullivan Act from their business activity of armed robbery. Thus, the effect of the Sullivan Act was precisely what the criminals intended. It made their life of crime easier.
As the first successful gun control advocates were criminals, I have often wondered what agenda lies behind the well-organized and propagandistic gun control organizations and their donors and sponsors in the US today. The propaganda issued by these organizations consists of transparent lies."

Swine Flu Dominates in U.S. Where 98% Test Positive

"(Bloomberg) -- Swine flu is responsible for about 98 percent of the influenza cases tested in the U.S., overshadowing other strains in a population with little natural resistance to the new virus, a U.S. study found.
The new flu, H1N1, is widespread across 11 states and circulating in parts of 19 others, according to a report by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scientists presented today in Atlanta. The number of seasonal flu cases has declined as swine flu spread after it was first identified in April.
Scientists have used laboratory tests to confirm 27,715 cases of swine flu in the U.S., and as many as 1 million people may have been sick and not had testing, the CDC said. Widespread flu is unusual in the U.S. at this time of the year.
“We’re all tightening our belts -- there isn’t anybody that does not anticipate that we’re going to be dealing with this virus in a serious way this fall and winter,” said William Schaffner, an influenza expert at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, in an interview at the conference."
“So far it doesn’t look like transmission is declining at all.”

Playing The Glad Game With Us

Pollyanna Creep

"The accusation goes like this: Surveyors collect the nation’s data and statisticians compile and report it. Politicians naturally want the numbers to show improvement. Not being able to change the facts, they focus on the handling of facts, pressuring statisticians to change their measurements. It’s not quite one grand conspiracy but decades of minor ones compiled. Today’s reports are so perverted, the theory holds, that the numbers have detached from common experience.

If the theory has a chief architect, it is John Williams, a semi-retired grandfather of five living in Oakland, Calif. The son of a chainsaw importer, Williams sold the family business in the 1970s and began consulting for corporations, recalculating government economic data to arrive at what he says were more reliable measures, and with them, truer forecasts. Today Williams runs Shadow Government Statistics (ShadowStats.com) from his home. For $175 a year subscribers get economic data and analysis adjusted to back out the accumulated effects of what Williams has dubbed the Pollyanna Creep -- Pollyanna being the orphan protagonist of the 1913 children’s book who learns to play the “glad game” to find cheery perspectives on life’s sorrows. In other words, he provides figures he feels are properly miserable, to offset government ones he says are too prettied-up.

If Williams is right, unemployment is over 20%, gross domestic product is shrinking by 8% and consumer prices are jumping by nearly 7%. His forecasts border on apocalyptic. The government is creating so much new money, he says, that the all but inevitable result is hyperinflation, where “your highest denomination, the $100 bill, becomes worth more as toilet paper than money.” Buy physical gold, he advises.

Whether we believe the forecasts or not, the possibility of a Pollyanna Creep has serious implications. Social Security payments are just one benefit adjusted each year for increases in the cost of living. If the figures hadn’t been corrupted, says Williams, checks might be close to double what they are."

Crop Circle Mystery Finally Explained

Opium-eating wallabies get high, make crop circles

"Wallabies are getting "as high as a kite" on opium in Australian poppy fields and flattening crops as they hop round in circles, according to a report.
The marsupials, which look like small kangaroos, have been getting into medical opium crops in the southern island state of Tasmania and chewing on the plant's intoxicating heads, state officials said.
"We have a problem with wallabies entering poppy fields, getting as high as a kite and going around in circles," state attorney-general Lara Giddings told a parliamentary estimates hearing.
"Then they crash. We see crop circles in the poppy industry from wallabies that are high," local media reported Ms Giddings as saying.
Tasmania is the world's largest producer of legally-grown opium for the pharmaceutical market, with about 500 farms supplying approximately 50 percent of the raw material for morphine and other opiate drugs.
Livestock and other animals, such as deer and sheep, which eat the plants had also been seen acting "weird," industry spokesman Rick Rockliff said.
"There have been many stories about sheep that have eaten some of the poppies after harvesting and they all walk around in circles," he said."

That Picture Of The Live Neda May Not Be The Dead Neda

What else about that murder may not be correct?

Here is a woman's testimonial, make up your own mind.

HOW THE WRONG NEDA PHOTO BECAME IRAN'S FACE OF FREEDOM

"On the evening of June 21, 2009, I, Dr. Amy L. Beam, was watching the unfolding events of Iran simultaneously at my computer and on Al Jazeera and CNN TV. I am in Europe. The TV newscasters kept repeating that this had become a Twitter Revolution in Iran. I've never before used Twitter to search for news, but this prompted me to. I logged onto twitter.com and searched for "Iran demonstrations". I saw the top search term was #iranelections so I searched for this and kept updating my search every minute. Twitters were pouring.
This is how I saw the Twitter posting that had a link to the youtube video of Neda being shot in Iran. It had just been uploaded. About 120 people had viewed it within several minutes. I was curious to know the dead woman's name so I emailed the person who uploaded the video. He thought the name was Neda Soltani. He explained that this video had been sent to him, outside of Iran, by the doctor who had been at Neda's side as she bled to death. The doctor's friend shot the video with his cell phone. The doctor also sent an explanatory note.
So I went immediately to Facebook and searched for Neda Soltani. A number of Neda profiles came up along with photos. Some had last names similar to Soltani. I decided I would try to eliminate the Neda's who were still alive, so I wrote to Neda Soltani, the beautiful Iranian woman wearing a patterned headscarf whose photo has become famous..."

Of course to my conspiratorial bent, there could be a lot more wrong about that murder in Tehran than just her picture. As usual the best thing enquiring minds can do is ask qui bono. In this case the poor woman, whose name so fortuitously for the demonstrators translates as "voice", literally became the poster child of rioting Iranians, as marchers immediateIy carried placards of the bloodied face with the words "This Is The Face Of Iranian Democracy" underneath it, in english. Now, when demonstrators in countries that don't speak english carry signs in english, just who is the target audience?

Iranian envoy: CIA involved in Neda's shooting?

"MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) -- The United States may have been behind the killing of Neda Agha-Soltan, the 26-year-old Iranian woman whose fatal videotaped shooting Saturday made her a symbol of opposition to the June 12 presidential election results, the country's ambassador to Mexico said Thursday.

"This death of Neda is very suspicious," Ambassador Mohammad Hassan Ghadiri said. "My question is, how is it that this Miss Neda is shot from behind, got shot in front of several cameras, and is shot in an area where no significant demonstration was behind held?"
He suggested that the CIA or another intelligence service may have been responsible.
"Well, if the CIA wants to kill some people and attribute that to the government elements, then choosing women is an appropriate choice, because the death of a woman draws more sympathy," Ghadiri said."

Who killed Neda Agha-Soltan?

"Consider this scenario:
A CIA-trained sharpshooter takes position on a rooftop in Tehran. His contact on the street below, waiting with a camera, calls. “She just got out of the car. A perfect target.”
He takes aim. Shoots. He disappears.
On the street, the contact takes the video of the young woman, her face visible and unscarred, helped by people on the street around her, bleeding to death.
Within an hour, the video arrives to an Iranian contact in the Netherlands, to the BBC, to the Voice of America. It becomes part of a much bigger story."

Note the guy in a white cap on the cell phone with the hand over his mouth.
And where did this video come from, concentrating on the woman about to be shot?

Illegal e-waste dumped in Ghana includes unencrypted hard drives full of US security secrets

"IDG News Service —
A team of journalists investigating the global electronic waste business has unearthed a security problem too. In a Ghana market, they bought a computer hard drive containing sensitive documents belonging to U.S. government contractor Northrop Grumman.
The drive had belonged to a Fairfax, Virginia, employee who still works for the company and contained "hundreds and hundreds of documents about government contracts," said Peter Klein, an associate professor with the University of British Columbia, who led the investigation for the Public Broadcasting Service show Frontline. He would not disclose details of the documents, but he said that they were marked "competitive sensitive" and covered company contracts with the Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Transportation Security Agency.
The data was unencrypted, Klein said in an interview. The cost? US$40."

Iran minister says CIA funding "rioters": report

"Iran's interior minister on Wednesday accused U.S. spy agency the CIA of helping to fund "rioters," stepping up accusations of Western involvement in street unrest following the country's disputed election.
"Britain, America and the Zionist regime (Israel) were behind the recent unrest in Tehran," Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli was quoted as saying by the semi-official Fars News Agency.
"Many of the rioters were in contact with America, CIA and the MKO and are being fed by their financial resources," he said. The MKO (Mujahideen Khalq Organization) is an exiled Iranian opposition group."

flashback - CIA planned “Soft Revolution” in early 2009

"The U.S. intelligence agency was seeking to (repeat) its experiences of color revolutions through such public contacts with influential persons and elites.”
The CIA tried to attain its goals by taking advantage of people-to-people contacts, joint studies, efforts to share scientific experiences, and other similar projects, he added.
The soft revolution plan was carried out through “NGOs, union protests, non-violent demonstrations, civil disobedience… and (efforts to) foment ethnic strife” all across Iran, the official stated."

Strange how I disagree with Chris Floyd on Iran's imbroglio. He seems to believe the fascists secretly want Ahmadinejad in place:

"The trope of a singular American hand guiding a million-headed puppet in the streets of Iran seems a bit odd anyway. There is of course little doubt that the imperial security apparat will try to make hay from the turmoil; but the American militarists have already made it clear that they prefer a victory for the incumbent Ahmadinejad; after all, without a readily demonizable figure as the public face of Iran, their unquenchable lust for conquering Persia becomes that much harder to consummate."

I find it hard to believe that the empire has to or cares much to put a face on a demonized Iran at this point, a la Saddam pre 2003 invasion. It's abundantly clear that the US is fanning the flames in the country and the reason is to weaken Israel's main stumbling block to middle east hegemony. The empire is expending a lot of effort to this effect despite Chris' denial, and it won't matter who occupies the presidency when the missiles fly, only that the country is less able to defend itself. The election was merely an excuse to initiate the culmination of a huge destabilization operation started under Bush.

Google Analyzes Your Vacation Snaps to Figure Out Where You Were

"Where were we when this was taken? Do you remember, dear?
Tired of trying to identify landmarks in your endless folders of travel photos? Google's image recognition engine could help. Just upload the mystery image to an online album, point the engine at it, and zap -- turns out it was the Acropolis, in Athens, Greece.
There's no product just yet, but Google's recognition engine has proven capable of identifying more than 50,000 unique landmarks from around the world, and all "without any human intervention," said Jay Yagnik, head of Google's Computer Vision Research. His team is scheduled to present its work today at a computer vision conference in Miami, Florida.
The recognition engine automatically pinpointed unique landmarks by sifting through 42 million images from photo-sharing websites Picasa and Panoramio, as well as online travel guides. Visual algorithms compared and filtered landmark images taken from different angles and under many lighting conditions.
GPS tags in many of the images also allowed the engine to identify landmarks through geographical clusters of photos. For instance, a bunch of uploaded images from many different sources regarding a certain iron tower in Paris, France would become flagged as a prime landmark candidate.
Google's team continues to try and improve on the engine's 80-percent accuracy. Visual images which pose no problem for humans can still easily baffle computers -- in one case, the engine has been known to accidentally identify an image of the American flag as the New York Stock Exchange and its flag-draped walls."

Buck A Day Keeps The Baby Away

Program Pays Girls $1 Per Day To Not Get Pregnant

"GREENSBORO -- A buck-a-day -- that's the incentive being offered to young girls to keep them from getting pregnant.
The group College-Bound Sisters was founded at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro by Hazel Brown, a maternity nurse who thought too many teens were having babies.
Brown said she hopes the program, which pays $1 each day to 12-to-18-year-old girls, will keep them from getting pregnant. In addition to remaining pregnancy-free, the girls must also attend weekly meetings.
The program is funded by a four-year grant from the state.
"Our three goals are that they avoid pregnancy, graduate from high school and enroll in college," Brown said.
Under the program, $7 is deposited into an interest-bearing college fund that the girls can collect once they graduate high school."

Army bars Stars and Stripes reporter from covering 1st Cav unit in Mosul

"Asserting that Stars and Stripes “refused to highlight” good news in Iraq that the U.S. military wanted to emphasize, Army officials have barred a Stripes reporter from embedding with a unit of the 1st Cavalry Division that is attempting to secure the violent city of Mosul.
Officials said Stripes reporter Heath Druzin, who covered operations of the division’s 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team in February and March, would not be permitted to rejoin the unit for another reporting tour because, among other things, he wrote in a March 8 story that many Iraqi residents of Mosul would like the American soldiers to leave and hand over security tasks to Iraqi forces."

Order Out Of Manufactured Chaos

Well this takes care of that little problem, a very inconvenient hole in the carefully constructed lie of what we're doing in Pakistan. It seems Pakistan has to be dealt with at the same time as Iran. The race is on to control the entire region.

Whistleblower Who Linked “Taliban” Leader To US Intelligence Is Assassinated

"A whistleblower who defected from the Pakistani Taliban has been assassinated just days after he claimed that the group was working with US intelligence to destabilize the country.
Qari Zainuddin, a tribal leader of the South Waziristan region in Pakistan was shot dead on Tuesday by a gunman said to be loyal to Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud."

"Though the BBC and other mainstream sources highlighted this interview with Zainuddin, they neglected to cover the fact that Zainuddin also reportedly denounced Mehsud as “an American agent”.
Both Iranian and Pakistani media independently covered his remarks, adding that Zainuddin also described Baitullah Mehsud as having
strong links with both Indian and Israeli intelligence.
In an interview with local media the defector said that Mehsud had established strong links with Israeli intelligence services, which were destabilizing the nuclear armed country, reports the Iranian news service Press TV.
“These people (Mehsud and his men) are working against Islam.” the report quotes Zainuddin as having said."

It really can't be more obvious what the monsters are doing all across south asia. I repeatedly call them ziofascists because that's exactly who they are by textbook definition, although they aren't the old variety. They've learned not to goosestep down the street. They know not to be the obvious face of tyranny you can more easily recognize and hate and resist. 'By Way of Deception, thou shalt do War'.
They need you to believe their lies and machinations so you actively desire their preferred outcomes, a much more effective tyranny.
What's happening in Iran is that country's 9/11, in that it's plain the election was the target date for a kickoff of a long prepared and massively funded psyop. For years the fascists weren't shy about the country being in their crosshairs, conducting military exercises in the region, casually tossing out war scenarios, waging diplomatic war, surrounding Iran with military bases, funding and encouraging terror groups to carry out deadly attacks.

But now cue the theatrics and let loose the spooks because the real war is being waged for your head as the ziofascists go into overdrive behind the scenes. Have the agents flood social networks. Alert the CIA riddled media, they'll know how to accelerate the message. Notify the color coordinated provocateurs. Tell the snipers to take out preselected targets one by one, make it a girl who's name translates to "the voice" and dies bloodily on the street; make another a shy, soon to be married innocent who's body has to be bought by the family for $3000. Blame it all on government goons.

The entire effort is to make you think what they're about to do is justified and necessary. For the most part with american mouthbreathers, it will work. For the Iranians, well, look at Iraq.

Destabilization 2.0

"It's the 2009 presidential election in Iran and opposition leader Mir-Houssein Mousavi declares victory hours before the polls close, insuring that any result to the contrary will be called into question. Western media goes into overdrive, fighting with each other to see who can offer the most hyperbolic denunciation of the vote and President Ahmadenijad's apparent victory (BBC wins by publishing bald-faced lies about the supposed popular uprising which it is later forced to retract). On June 13th, 30000 "tweets" begin to flood Twitter with live updates from Iran, most written in English and provided by a handful of newly-registered users with identical profile photos. The Jerusalem Post writes a story about the Iran Twitter phenomenon a few hours after it starts (and who says Mossad isn't staying up to date with new media?). Now, YouTube is providing a "Breaking News" link at the top of every page linking to the latest footage of the Iranian protests (all shot in high def, no less). Welcome to Destabilization 2.0, the latest version of a program that the western powers have been running for decades in order to overthrow foreign, democratically elected governments that don't yield to the whims of western governments and multinational corporations."

Another Reason Not To Eat This Stuff

Tapeworms on the rise among sushi eaters

"Anthony Franz says an undercooked salmon salad gave him a 9-foot-tapeworm, and in August he sued the Chicago restaurant that served it to him. If Franz’s tapeworm tale holds water – and the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the restaurant disputes his account – then it’s just one more data point to add to a growing urban tapeworm problem.
Once the bane of rural Japanese villagers, a paper in the June issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases reports on the spread of the the salmon tapeworm Diphyllobothrium nihonkaiense. The parasite, which can reach lengths of 39 feet (12 meters), has been steadily increasing its global distribution and prevalence – mostly among yuppies with a hankering for sashimi and ceviche."

Endless Conflict For Endless Profit

This is the way fascism works - fund and infiltrate both sides. Who do you think has been blowing up mosques in Iraq? Who do you believe Al Qaeda really is?

Taliban defectors: US, Israel funding militants

"Two militants' leaders who defected from notorious Taliban chief in Pakistan have revealed that their comrade was pursuing a US-Israeli agenda across the country.
A prominent militant leader, Turkistan Bittani, who broke away from Baitullah Mehsud, called him "an American agent".
Mehsud, a warlord in his late 30s, has claimed responsibility for dozens of devastating string attacks on both civilians and security forces throughout the feared region.
Moreover, Baetani emphasized that Mehsud was being funded by US and Israeli intelligence services for brainwashing innocent youths.
The insurgents' chief has recruited several teenagers who have carried out dozens of suicide attacks on Pakistani mosques and educational institutes over some past months.
Baetani also noted that al-Qaeda and Taliban's leadership was never targeted in the dozens of US drone strikes in the country's troubled north-west region. Another defector, Qari Zainuddin, said that Mehsud had established strong links with Israeli intelligence services which were destabilizing the nuclear armed country. "These people (Mehsud and his men) are working against Islam."

Fighting tears, shah's son calls crisis a 'moment of truth'

"The moment of truth has arrived," Reza Shah Pahlavi said at Washington's National Press Club. "The people of Iran need to know who stands with them."

Slain Neda is 'one of my daughters', shah's son says

"WASHINGTON (AFP) — The son of the late shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, was Monday carrying in his breastpocket a photograph of the slain protester known as Neda said to have been killed in the Tehran protests.
"I have added her (Neda) to the list of my daughters. She is now forever in my pocket," Pahlavi told AFP fighting back tears, after calling at a press conference for Western media and governments to stand strongly alongside the protest movement in Iran."

Son of shah says protesters defeat could lead to nuclear war

"The exiled son of the late shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, warned Monday of dire consequences for the volatile Middle East and the rest of the world if the popular uprising in Iran is crushed.
The defeat of the movement protesting the outcome of presidential elections 10 days ago would not only threaten global stability but could lead to nuclear war, Pahlavi told a news conference here."

Savak, the Shah's secret police force

"The Shah's brutal secret police force, Savak, formed under the guidance of CIA (the United States Central Intelligence Agency) in 1957 and personnel trained by Mossad (Israel's secret service), to directly control all facets of political life in Iran. Its main task was to suppress opposition to the Shah's government and keep the people's political and social knowledge as minimal as possible. Savak was notorious throughout Iran for its brutal methods.
The interrogation office was established with no limit of using horrific torture tools and techniques to break the arrested dissenters to talk in a matter of hours."

Al-Qaeda Leader Hopes to Use Pakistani Nukes Against US

"10 months ago, the Pakistani government touted the death of top al-Qaeda figure Mustafa Abu al-Yazid in the Bajaur Agency. Today, he gave a notably live interview with al-Jazeera in which he made some chilling comments regarding Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.

When asked about the prospect of the US seizing Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal during the growing instability, Yazid declared “God willing, the nuclear weapons will not fall into the hands of the Americans and the mujahideen would take them and use them against the Americans.”

I swear, these fake, CIA terror clowns pop in and out of existence and the MSM never asks questions. They die, they give interviews, they die again, all according to if the fascists want to tout success in their phony WOT or if they want to scare the shit out of us.

The War On Terror Was Always A War On You

First the government passed the veterans disarmament act, which placed any veteran who has ever been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on a federal gun ban list. Congress passed this criminal legislation in the middle of the night and after Bush signed it into law he fled to Israel.

"It was December 19, 2007. Most Congressmen had left town and were either at the airport or in the air returning home. They weren't in Washington, DC, because their party leadership had told them that all the major votes were over... that the only legislative business left related to non-controversial issues, such as when Congress would return from Christmas break, etc.
But it was then, with most of the Congress gone, that the House and Senate passed the Veterans Disarmament Act without a recorded vote."

Then last year a contrived ammunition shortage hit. Slowly the shelves went bare. Now if you can find any supply in most common calibers, it's prohibitively expensive.

Last month some senators introduced a bill to "close the nation’s gun show loophole.” This will have nothing to do with fighting crime but everything to do with making sure the government knows what you buy and sell.

Now this week:
Proposed Law Allows AG Holder to Block Gun Sales to Over a Million Americans

"New Jersey Democrat senator Frank R. Lautenberg plans to introduce legislation designed to cancel the Second Amend rights of well over a million U.S. citizens this coming week, according to the New York Times. “Mr. Lautenberg plans to introduce legislation on Monday that would give the attorney general the discretion to block gun sales to people on terror watch lists,” the newspaper reports."
"The Inspector General of the Justice Department reported that the Terrorist Screening Center — the FBI-administered organization that consolidates terrorist watch list information in the United States — had over 700,000 names in its database as of April 2007 and that the list was growing by an average of over 20,000 records per month, according to the ACLU. In March of this year the list hit the one million mark, a 32% increase from 2007.
The actual number may far exceed one million entries. The FBI says the number of names on its terrorist watch list is classified. In addition to the National Counterterrorism Center watch list, the FBI keeps a list of persons said to be domestic terrorists, according to
ABC News."

This bill will deny the second amendment to officially designated enemies of the state. Not foreigners, not muslims, not terrorists. You.

The whole stageplay stinks to high heaven. An 88 year old man walks into a high holy place of Israeli victimhood with a 100 year old gun that's impossible to trace (how convenient) and supposedly kills a security guard.
This is the type of gun the old man was supposed to have carted into the building, a Winchester model 6 pump action .22 caliber, first made on 1908. While assuredly a .22 caliber gun can do you serious harm, it's power is more suited to bagging squirrels and plinking tin cans.

He's then painted with ugly human behavior and all possible sentiments criticizing our burgeoning ziofascism. (nudge, nudge)
Unfortunately for the propagandists who assure us he killed that security guard, a witness tells a different story:

"Describe what you saw, Maria.

MARIA: Well, we were in the "Remember the Children" exhibit. We were just exiting and we heard shooting.I ran towards the glass doors to see what was going on. I thought it was a joke or something. And there I could see a security man pull out his gun and shoot towards the shooter.I also saw another security man on his belly. There was blood everywhere. So I didn't actually see him get shot, but I saw that he was badly hurt and he did get shot.

HENRY: And then you saw some of the return fire from the security personnel?

MARIA: Yes, it hit the security man. I am not sure where, but he was flat on his back."

Order Out Of Chaos

A "special" kind of order.

The 'Stolen Elections' Hoax

"There is hardly any election, in which the White House has a significant stake, where the electoral defeat of the pro-US candidate is not denounced as illegitimate by the entire political and mass media elite. In the most recent period, the White House and its camp followers cried foul following the free (and monitored) elections in Venezuela and Gaza, while joyously fabricating an ‘electoral success’ in Lebanon despite the fact that the Hezbollah-led coalition received over 53% of the vote."

"Almost the entire spectrum of Western opinion makers, including all the major electronic and print media, the major liberal, radical, libertarian and conservative web-sites, echoed the opposition’s claim of rampant election fraud. Neo-conservatives, libertarian conservatives and Trotskyites joined the Zionists in hailing the opposition protestors as the advance guard of a democratic revolution. Democrats and Republicans condemned the incumbent regime, refused to recognize the result of the vote and praised the demonstrators’ efforts to overturn the electoral outcome. The New York Times, CNN, Washington Post, the Israeli Foreign Office and the entire leadership of the Presidents of the Major American Jewish Organizations called for harsher sanctions against Iran and announced Obama’s proposed dialogue with Iran as ‘dead in the water’."

"What is astonishing about the West’s universal condemnation of the electoral outcome as fraudulent is that not a single shred of evidence in either written or observational form has been presented either before or a week after the vote count."

The author is absolutely correct that what we've seen is the classic MO of the fascists's response to to an election outcome they don't like. It's happened in the past with Nicaragua, Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Gaza and other countries. Because groups lost that would have kowtowed to ziofascist interests, the election results are automatically fraudulent by definition.
Iran is no different, and so we see the spectacle of a showboat vote in the House to support the demonstrators, solely an attempt to give them legitimacy.
But I have a feeling of forboding about what's happening in Iran. The country has been in ziofascist crosshars for years because it's the key for total regional control. Each domino for conquering central asia was toppled by a unique method - Iraq with lies and invasion, corrupt arab governments are bribed, Yugoslavia was slowly balkanized, 9/11 was the excuse for Afghanistan. The fascists have decided to create chaos in Iran by fabricating internal unrest. They probably aren't going to let up the pressure until the country is in flames, or the long awaited regional war commences..
It's obvious corporate media prepared for this and the propaganda is flying fast and furious. Networking sites were all set up to blast anti government messages, so because of their implanted agents the US begged Twitter not to shut down for maintainance. It's been a total Iranathon for a week of saturation coverage. There were riots after the election in Moldova recently but you'd be forgiven if you never heard a word about them. Rioting in Georgia? Latvia? India? No, the propagandists want you to pay attention to Iran where a massive disinformation campaign is under way as the manipulators go for total disruption. I was about to say the bombings are next, but events beat me to it. The ziofascists have had their big Iran lollapalooza prepared for a long time, their usual election complaints are probably going to get far more serious with the Grand Prize at stake.

School bus traffic sting generates tickets, controversy in South Pasadena

"More than 160 people received $500 traffic citations Wednesday as part of an elaborate sting by the South Pasadena Police Department involving a decoy school bus complete with people walking on and off the vehicle.
The sting — designed to nab motorists who fail to stop for school buses with flashing red lights — has generated debate in the city. Some think the program was unfair, charging that the location was unusual for a school bus, the officers created a distraction, and there were no schoolchildren present.
“It was a crazy place for a school bus to be parked,” said Valerie McAndrews, whose 16-year-old daughter was among those cited. “You don’t stop in the middle of Huntington or you’re going to be rear-ended. In this particular instance I don’t think there was any way to obey the law.”
Others are supporting the effort, saying the city needs to crack down on drivers who don’t follow the rules. The yellow school bus first appeared on the busy six-lane road about 8 a.m. near the intersection of Milan Avenue, which has no stop sign or cross walk.

San Gabriel resident Mary Hatton, 42, said she approached the area about 8:45 a.m. and was confused when she saw more than a dozen officers among the cars in the middle of the busy street.
“It was a circus of lights and chaos,” she said of the sting that also involved from Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, San Marino and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple City station. “No one was speeding, I mean people were literally just trying to figure out what was going on and what to do to to keep away from whatever the activity was. I thought I was being directed along with other motorists away from whatever it was that was happening.”
Hatton received the $500 ticket."

Brit Police State To Stomp On Solstice Revelers

Big police operation planned for Stonehenge summer solstice

"A big police operation involving an unmanned drone, horses and drugs sniffer dogs will be launched at Stonehenge tomorrow as huge crowds descend on the ancient site for the summer solstice.
Because the celebrations fall over the weekend and fine weather is predicted, bigger crowds than usual are expected and Wiltshire police have said they will clamp down heavily on antisocial behaviour.
Restrictions are being placed on the amount of alcohol revellers can bring in and police have said they will not tolerate illegal drug taking or unlawful raves.
The force's no-nonsense approach, after a more relaxed feel in recent years, has raised fears that there could be clashes."

"Antisocial behavior" being anything the cops don't like so expect quite a lot of violence tomorrow from the police.

U.S. Military Tracking North Korean Ship Suspected of Proliferating Missiles, Nukes

"The U.S. military is tracking a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News has learned.
The ship, Kang Nam, left a port in North Korea Wednesday and appears to be heading toward Singapore, according to a senior U.S. military source. The vessel, which the military has been tracking since its departure, could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials
."

Or any other cargo. I defer to Michael at WhatReallyHappened:

"That ship could be carrying kimchee, too!
But it doesn't matter what it is carrying; the moment the US interdicts that ship (fancy USA-speak for piracy), that will be the very provocation North Korea warned they would respond to.
In other word, the US Government, unable to get a war in Iran going, is going to start a war with North Korea.
The DC boys know they have screwed the economy. They know it. They know you know it. They hope, they PRAY, that if they can start a war the resulting surge of patriotism and war fever will addle your puny (in their estimations) little brains and make you forget that it is not North Korea but Washington DC which is the gravest threat to your way of life

Feeding The RFID Beast With Blood

Airforce magazine calls it "compressing the kill chain". Deranged pentagon geeks call it "revolution in military affairs" (RMA). The US military pays locals to plant signalling chips near people that this country wants to murder and then flies in Predator or Reaper drones which then send in the missiles:
"First it was cattle. Then it was pets. Then Mexicans. Now the tribal areas of Pakistan where the CIA is equipping Pakistani tribesmen with secret transmitters to call in airstrikes targeting al-Qaida and Taliban militants. A drone, guided by the signal from the chip, destroys the building with a salvo of missiles scattering body parts everywhere."
Almost every day there's a news story about this happening. It seems to be the preferred method of killing - remotely, anonymously and when Hussein decides to take revenge on that family across the way, or needs some extra cash, he'll spread the chips liberally, which will murder indiscriminately.

"But while American operators may get their kicks unloading a salvo of deadly missiles on unsuspecting villagers thousands of miles away, what happens when CIA “cut-outs” get it wrong?
According to investigative journalist Amir Mir, writing in the Lahore-based newspaper
The News, “of the sixty cross-border Predator strikes…between January 14, 2006 and April 8, 2009, only 10 were able to hit their actual targets, killing 14 wanted al-Qaeda leaders, besides perishing 687 innocent Pakistani civilians. The success percentage of the US Predator strikes thus comes to not more than six percent.”
"The technological fetishism of Pentagon war planners and their corporate enablers masks the deadly realities for humanity posed by the dominant world disorder that has reached the end of the line as capitalism’s long death-spiral threatens to drag us all into the abyss.
The dehumanizing rhetoric of RMA with its endless array of acronyms and “warfighting tools” that reduce waging aggressive imperialist wars of conquest to the “geek speak” of a video game, must be unmasked for what it actually represents: state killing on a massive scale."
