New Chevy Volt

Enthusiasts will find plenty to like about the Volt, our reviewer says

"Since its announcement three years ago, the Chevrolet Volt has seemed like one of those perpetually out-of-reach technologies, like fusion power or flying cars.
No longer.
General Motors is gearing up now to manufacture the Volt beginning this spring, reported Tony Posawatz, Chevrolet Volt and global electric vehicle line director."

Almost twenty years ago General Motors came out with a limited run of an electric car, the EV1, that was an instant hit. The owners loved them. Then they were forced to give up their keys and watched as their cars were towed away and destroyed. The whole project shut down and the EV1 was axed from GMs lineup in 1999. One wonders if the Volt will share the same fate.

In 2006 a documentary detailed this entire process. This film was far more interesting than I would ever have guessed and I highly recommend it. You can watch it here.

I had the opportunity to see that documentary (i think it's the same one). Not only did GM kill its own electric vehicle program but Ford and Toyota had parallel programs which they killed as well.
GM Threatened to take anyone to court that wouldn't hand over the keys to the EV's. The whole situation was reprehensible and in my book GM deserves to be in the situation they find themselves in today. They could have owned the EV market.

Yes, the one you saw sounds the same and it was an amazing story. What got me was how the owners truly loved the vehicle and couldn't understand why it was taken from them to be scrapped. And they could actually go and see them parked behing locked fences.
