One We Should Take Seriously, The Other Not. Guess Which
"The FBI is looking for the mailer of 25 letters claiming that al-Qaeda has dispersed 160 remote-controlled nuclear weapons at secret locations around the United States, CBS News reported on Tuesday (see GSN, March 22).
"They alarmed a lot of people,” FBI Special Agent Andre Zavala said of the Chicago-postmarked letters, in which the writer purports to be al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
“The al-Qaeda organization has planted 160 nuclear bombs throughout the U.S. in schools, stadiums, churches, stores, financial institutions and government buildings,” says one of the letters, received in recent days by lawyer Tracy Rizzo. It adds, “This is a suicide mission for us.”
“It was clear the writer wanted to scare me,” said Rizzo, one of eight people around Chicago to notify the FBI of the communications. “Yes, it frightened me.”
Authorities in California, Florida, Oregon and Texas reported similar mailings."
ISRAELI EMBASSY IN NYC A RADIATION HOT SPOT
"WASHINGTON -- Anti-terrorism officials conducted a helicopter survey of
New York City's radiation sources in preparation for a so-called "dirty
bomb" attack - and discovered a Staten Island park with dangerously high
levels of radium, a new report found.
Federal authorities found 80 unexpected "hot spots" around New York
City, according to the Government Accountability Office, the
investigative arm of Congress."
"One alleged radiation hot spot on Manhattan's east side has the
potential for becoming a political hot spot: A strong radiation spike
from the area of the Israeli Embassy. Officials would not comment on why
they thought that particular area allegedly showed such a stunning peak
in radiation. "
