Suffocating Brit Nanny State Continues

Drivers who leave engines running to clear screens face fines under 'idling offence' rules

"Motorists who leave their cars running on frosty mornings to warm up the engine and clear the windscreen could face being fined under anti-pollution rules this winter.
Drivers are being told that leaving a car idling for more than a couple of minutes wastes fuel, and they could be served with on-the-spot fines of up to £40."

a friend of ours here in town is trying to propose similar legislation. i've told him i'll fight him on it--tried convincing him how intrusive it is--how many people idle because they have older cars, etc. etc.. it's been presented to the city council and oh how they just love the concept.
this individual will NOT be in compliance if it gets enacted. (i may just sit in front of the people's homes backing it and idle the 'ole car.)
