About That Iran Intelligence Report
courtesy of Arthur Silber
"It deserves emphasis that this latest NIE tells us nothing -- let me repeat that, nothing -- that was not entirely obvious to a reasonably intelligent layperson who followed mainstream media reports about Iran for the last several years.
(...)
Let us start with the most crucial point. The reaction from all quarters to the NIE relies on several interrelated central assumptions, ones that are regarded as so unquestionably true that no one thinks they need to be stated: that major policy decisions, including decisions of war and peace, are based on intelligence in the first place; that a decision to go to war is one made only after cool and careful rational deliberation; and that nations go to war for the reasons they announce to the world.
ALL OF THIS IS ABSOLUTELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY FALSE."
I think we can safely assume how much this intelligence report will forestall any planned attack on Iran by taking a look at the public stances of the ziofascist crowd. What did Bush tell us today? That the report vindicates his administration's warmongering. Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert, no doubt smug in Israel's ability to dictate foreign policy to us, said "the new finding wouldn't deter Israel or the United States from pressing its campaign to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons capability."
The upcoming war on Iran and destabilization of the entire middle east is absolutely essential for the ziofascists to remain in power. They have to gain control over Iran's natural resources in order to preclude economic collapse; it's been the agenda all along to topple Iran's government and sieze the oil. This ruthless empire will use it's military juggernaut to force it's will on the world and just like the brutish indifference to the slaughter of innocents in Iraq the upcoming nuclear war on Iran is cold calculation, indifferent to any intelligence estimates.

IMO, this is mostly smoke and mirrors. I very much doubt there was any true desire on the part of the administration to attack Iran. The Iran bellicosity is mostly a distraction from more serious problems --such as our economic destruction. I know supposedly Cheney is dying to bomb Iran, but I have this funny feeling this is disinfo.
Well, I don't agree with you on that, spooked, but there are plenty of people who think that, such as xymphora, who point out the zionist influence in Iranian and Turkish governments. And there are those who feel the saber rattling benefits both sides and could be coordinated to benefit the power structures and unite the various factions against an outside enemy.
We'll see.
There are other reasons that the Bushcorps and neocons could use to go to war with Iran. The most prominent is their insistance that Iran has been providing support to the insurgency in Iraq. That excuse makes the Iranians look just as bad as AQ, as far as the neocons and prowar party profiteers are concerned.
Yeah Nick, that's been a ready made casus belli for them which they tried to flog this past year and could explode as so called justification for war, especially if some "event" occurs causing a big body count of soldiers.
