At the Monterey Pop Festival Pete Townshend of The Who and Jimi Hendrix bickered about which act was to perform first because each musician was going to destroy his guitar, and neither wanted to follow the other. They settled it with a coin toss and Hendrix went on last, outdoing Townshend with a guitar bonfire at the end of his cover of Wild Thing.
