Jersey Freaks Out That Gaddafi Might Camp There
Possible Gaddafi Visit Stirs N.J. Town
"Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi often brings a Bedouin tent along on his foreign trips, and he has pitched one in Cairo, in Rome and next to the Elysee Palace in Paris. But reports that he is planning to set up camp in suburban Englewood, N.J., next month have prompted outrage from U.S. lawmakers and a diplomatic scramble in Washington.
Rep. Steven R. Rothman (D-N.J.), whose district includes Englewood, said Tuesday that he had taken the matter to the State Department and the White House and that they had "strongly urged the Libyan government to have Mr. Gaddafi remain only in New York City" when he visits to address the U.N. General Assembly."
This is being treated as oddball nuttiness but consider what US presidents bring along with them when they go to foreign countries. Obama has his food tasters. Below was the Bush mob's posse, and doesn't even include his shit handlers who brought special toilets to save and bring the president's turds back home so no one could get his DNA.
So asking to set up his Beduin style tent in Central Park or on the grounds of a Jersey residence is pretty tame and actually kind of charming in my opinion. I've always been intrigued by this guy, and I've often thought he's been unjustifiably maligned in the past, sort of kept in abeyance by the fascists as a potential, useful villain du jour. Somewhat of a gadfly, he's no saint but no fiend either and his brand of Islamic Socialism and consistent support of the palestinians are laudable. He'll steal the show next month during his first visit to the UN, if for nothing else than his inventive wardrobe.
