Oregon initiative would allow pot sales at liquor stores
"Relax It And Tax It
That's the motto behind a new cannabis initiative that would allow Oregon's state-controlled liquor stores to legally sell marijuana to adults.Initiative backers said their plan would send 90 percent of the proceeds from the state's sale of marijuana to Oregon's General Fund, which could lower Oregonians' state tax burden.
Smaller percentages would go to funding drug abuse education and treatment programs.
The initiative would also legalize the growing of hemp, a non-drug variant of cannabis that can be used to make industrial-strength fibers and bio-fuels.
Supporters claim that allowing cannabis cultivation and sales through state liquor stores would add $300 million in combined tax revenues and savings to Oregon's budget.Paul Stanford of the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act said the measure would also put a dent in illegal dealing of the weed."
I worked in an Oregon liquor store for a number of years and it would be simplicity itself to integrate weed into the sales procedure, since it's so highly regulated to begin with. The best part of this initiative is finally calling for hemp to be cultivated, something which should never have been outlawed in the first place.

I have just one question. Even if this measure passes, would the DEA respect it, or would they see it as another fine excuse for making raids, busting people, and stealing easy money and contraband?
At the very least, you should be legally allowed to grow hemp because there is no way you can get high off it and it's completely ridiculous that it was outlawed.
Well nick, it'll never pass and the proposal is set for 2010 so there will be a lot more pressing issues confronting us in the road before then. It won't pass because it would obviate all the heavy handed and lucrative scams the fascists have meticulously put in place like you mentioned. It's a good thing to be put out there just the same, maybe just to remind people that some sort of sanity awaits us after we rid ourselves of the parasitic vermin on our backs.
Talk about conspiracies, shadow. Hemp always was and still is the savior of the world and could be an unanticipated star in the petroleum crunch.
