Venezuela Donates More Heating Oil To US Poor

"BOSTON, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Standing on the deck of an oil tanker in Massachusetts Bay on Monday, Venezuelan energy officials kicked off the third year of a controversial program of delivering subsidized home-heating oil for the U.S. poor.
A Houston unit of a state-owned company backed by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a foe of the Bush administration, will supply oil at 40 percent below market prices in 23 states, an expansion from 16 states last year.
The donations by Citgo Petroleum Corp, owned by Venezuelan state-owned Petroleos de Venezuela, are worth about $147 million at market prices.
Deliveries began arriving at homes just as a deadly ice storm swept the U.S. Plains and many Americans start to grapple with record heating bills to heat this winter."

"Controversial" only because the hideous corporate press has been relentlessly lying about and demonizing Chavez and his Bolivarian Revolution. Imagine this, an oil company that ranks help to struggling people more important than ever more massive profits. No wonder the Bushistas hate Chavez. The fascists have always hated the threat of a good example.
Two years ago and just before brutal winter weather -

"When 13 U.S. Senators sent a letter to major U.S. oil companies last fall seeking heating fuel aid for lower-income residents in northern states, Citgo — a subsidiary of the state-owned Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) — was the only one to step forward."

Gracias, muchas gracias a Hugo Chavez.

but Presidente Chavez, I just don't understand why you wanted to be able to be president for life. I mean I understand the temptation but you're shooting the movement in the foot. Do your best and have faith in the people, as they have shown in you.

thanks nolo

As a mass resident receiving fuel-assistance this winter, I am grateful to Chavez and Venezuela for this.

At this point, I would also like to report that despite misunderstandings in the past, relations between my hispanic neighbors and myself are managing quite well now. We have learned to tolerate one another with equal respect for our poor dispositions.

That 'president for life' stuff was a lot of hooey siezed upon and endlessly repeated by the shameless MSM, tkn. The clause in the constitutional changes merely ended term limits - the president would still have to run for office every certain number of years. It was stressed to overshadow the egalitarian social changes that were abhorrant and hated by the fascists, so they endlessly screamed ¡Dictator!

I don't know man,

Term limits seem like a good idea. Term limits quash any aspirations of monarchy/dictatorship. If you want to get rid of them, it immediately begs the question why?

Was it primarily WWII that allowed for FDR to serve four terms? or was it three? Point is, there are circumstances when the term limits can be extended, but is it good to change the Constitution? What if Bush wasn't limited to 2 terms? That would suck.

Nationalize the oil industry? Smartest thing I've ever heard.
End term limits? tell me why. I think that's why the students said "no".

And... the students were allowed to say no. Crucial.

I'm not saying he's not a wingnut, he absolutely can be a wingnut.

But he printed and distributed constitutions for people to study... passed em out with government money to poor neighborhoods. He's a mixed bag but I still think that we're getting such intensely biased reporting on him that anything negative is suspect.

Chavez is a mixed bag but as he graciously accepted defeat it sort of blew that dictator talk out of the water.
You make a good point tkn about here in this country, but what Venezuela is going through is hugely different. Chavez is bringing enormous change to the social structure of inequality and iniquity which has existed for a long time, in the face of very powerful forces which if given a chance will reverse the process. I'd give the Bolivarian movement the benefit of the doubt that they're trying to find ways not to let that happen.

indeed,
I would even go so far as to say I agree with Chavez that Bush is the Devil. His policies have brought forth so much senseless violence and destruction of innocent life and in general contributed to the destruction of the planet, what better description is there?

I believe in the World Social Forum.

I just want him and the People's movement to do well.

Hey! Thank you for sharing your thoughts about heating oil. I am glad to stop by your site and know more about heating oil. Keep it up! This is a good read. You have such an interesting and informative page. I will be looking forward to visit your page again and for your other posts as well.
The K factor is the number of degree days in any given period divided by the number of gallons of fuel oil used in a given period. Multiplying K degree-days per gallon by the number of gallon of usable fuel remaining in a tank gives the number of degree-days before a delivery is needed.
