A Message To All Potential Computer Purchasers

Don't buy Dell.

I won't get into the horror story of having our Inspiron 6000 go belly up and the two month fight with Dell to try to fix it. Let me just recount this last bit 'o business with the company - I finally sent the damn paperweight back to Dell and get this - they sent it back to me saying it was my problem, so sorry. And it's fully under warranty.

Don't buy Dell.

Customer service is a rotten myth.

I have a story like that of my own. I will never ever buy a Dell again.

It's unbelievable. It would boot up to the blue death screen and nothing I did fixed it, so it went halfway across the country to Dell. They sent it back in the exact same condition saying it was some software problem. I bit the bullet and tried to reformat it by reinstalling windows and that didn't even work. Now it just gives an error message.

Some rep is going to call back later this morning. I wouldn't want to be him.

This is what happened to me -- I had my new Dell desktop for about 6 months when it wouldn't boot back up. Dell wouldn't fix it because according to them it wasn't their fault, so I took it to a computer repair shop here. The guy at that repair shop told me that the "better" harddrive that I had paid extra for was a brand known to be "notoriously unreliable" and it was fried. I replaced the harddrive at my own expense because it was cheaper than a new computer, but I am much happier with the cheap Gateway that I bought at best buy since then. It ended up having a harddrive problem where my audio and video drives weren't recognized and Gateway replace the entire harddrive for free and best buy paid the shipping.

Wow, that's good service from Gateway. I think they and HP will get my next business. Dell must have spent all their money earned from outsourcing on that BS customer service propaganda campaign instead of real service, and it shows.
