Black Monday
"In finance, Black Monday refers to Monday October 19, 1987, when stock markets around the world crashed, shedding a huge value in a very short time. The crash began in Hong Kong and spread west to Europe, hitting the United States after other markets had already declined by a significant margin. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped by 508 points to 1738.74 (22.61%)."
That day was a wakeup call for me.
I was pretty politically aware for a couple of decades by that time but I had just taken it for granted that things would muddle along basically the same as always. It never really occured to me until that day that the system could utterly break down. My epiphany caused me to snap out of all my comfort zones and from that day forward my wife and I became preppers. We sat down and made plans, and slowly over the years readied ourselves to the point that we're basically prepared for any eventualities.
