Thanks for replying Dad, and yes, you're right Bruce. My wife's industrious investigatory efforts found out it's a Hercules Beetle, the largest such insect critter in North America. Apparently only the males have the rhino horns. I gently deposited it in the squash patch, after suffering numerous gorings.
