The SW Desert Is Full Of Surprises

So I went out to fill the bird water this morning...


and almost wrapped my hand around this guy.

I have no f*cking clue Nolo. Biology isn't my strong suit.

He sure looks fierce, doesn't he?

Imagine what we could find on other planets that would look just as, if not more, weird?

That looks more alike a kind of beetle.

Thanks for replying Dad, and yes, you're right Bruce. My wife's industrious investigatory efforts found out it's a Hercules Beetle, the largest such insect critter in North America. Apparently only the males have the rhino horns.
I gently deposited it in the squash patch, after suffering numerous gorings.
