Viking 1 landed on Mars

This positively thrilled me at the time, before I realized how duplicitous NASA really was, and before the soil test results were too dangerous and had to be squelched. The fact that a probe from earth had landed on another planet so far away and successfully sent back pictures of an alien environment was truly an astounding achievement.

But then of course, all the fudging and lying occurred, tarnishing the event, adding yet another cheapened story to the sorry dungheap of NASA lies.

sunset on Mars. wait, isn't it supposed to be reddish?
