Thug Protocol > Common Sense = Dead Child

Chicago Heights police deny claims by dead boy's mom

"Chicago Heights police today disputed the contention by a woman whose 5-year-old son died in a car crash that she tried to tell a police officer that her boyfriend was drunk and shouldn't be allowed to drive. In a tearful press conference Tuesday, Kathie LaFond said that despite her efforts, a Chicago Heights officer still gave possession of her car, and her son, to boyfriend Cecil Conner after LaFond was arrested in the early morning hours of May 10for allegedly driving on a suspended license. In a statement released today, Chicago Heights Police Chief Michael Camilli said his department "stands by its officer and the results of its preliminary investigation, which showed that Ms. LaFond made no statements to the officer that would have or should have indicated that Cecil Conner was in any way impaired, had been drinking alcohol, or had been using illegal drugs, prior to the time Connor took control of the vehicle."
After the arrest, Conner drove off with 5-year-old Michael Langford Jr. in the back seat. Shortly after, Conner veered off Steger Road and crashed into a tree in nearby Steger. When Steger police arrived on the scene, they said Conner smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.Michael was later pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash. On Tuesday, LaFond, 23, said she was handcuffed and sitting in the back of a police car as she watched Conner drive away.
"I told him (the officer) Cecil was drinking," LaFond said Tuesday, as she stared downward at a table in front of her. "He said don't worry about it. He would make sure he got home.
"I asked him, where he was going with my baby, that he was drinking.
"That was the last I seen my baby."

Absolutely no way in hell the uniforms didn't know the guy was plastered. They wanted to make their stop legit and damn the consequences.
