Those low numbers meant there were few females available to hear a male's come-hither song. For males in that situation, "there's a push to have the sound go to higher frequency so that more of the girls can hear it."
In other words, the guys had to shout to be heard. But now that blue whales are more numerous, Hildebrand thinks the males have gone back to singing bass because it makes them sound bigger and more attractive to females."
Oh for fuck's sake how asinine can they be? Whale populations are declining worldwide because massive pollution is wiping out whole ecosystems. Vast swaths of oceans and seas are dead zones with krill and plankton disappearing because of climate chaos and toxins. Increased ocean noise and military sonar are driving cetacea crazy.
Both articles wrongly imply that lower frequencies don't travel as far as higher frequencies in water. Lower frequencies travel fastest and further in dense mediums like the earth and water.

The obvious reason whale frequencies are lowering, aside from the probability their songs might be imparting new information, is that because of declining populations they're forced to call longer distances.
So why would this obvious misinformation be promulgated at the same time by various news outlets? I think it's like climategate - we're being told garbage because things need to be hidden from us. With the now discredited global warming business their real purpose is to institute more top down control and taxation. I'd lump this whale nonsense in with the general "Don't worry be happy" or "Nothing to see here, move along" drivel we're constantly bombarded with. Very sick people are desperate to keep us thinking all is nice and normal, meanwhile behind the bland monotone the same psychos are pulling some very dirty shit.
