Wow that is kinda crazy! i just saw Avatar and i thought it was amazing. I wasn't even thinking about the supposed beautiful scenery, just the story itself. I guess i can kind of agree with the whole bad portrayal of the military part, but I wouldn't exactly call it racist. Its a reoccurring theme in movies (the whole natives vs conquerors story). Its basically just the story of Pocahontas. Outsiders (be it military/human/or a specific race) come in to extract some natural resource (be it gold/diamonds/or some strange rock as in the movie) and of course a war begins. After that, i think people just take whatever meaning they please from the movie based on their own personal beliefs. I guess I'm just trying to say that I didn't think it was all that bad. It was pretty amazing.
I thought it was a good flick and yeah I knew it was 'anti-Empire' and so did a bunch of other folks.
Apparently the Christo-fascist crowd didn't think too much of it.

Yeah, I kinda liked it-- and parts were quite amazing. But it's just a freakin' movie!
I agree with you all.
I watched an inferior pirated copy online and liked it so much the Mrs and I are going to travel to a 3D Imax to see it again.
I guess the frowns stem from 2 quarters, the jeebus/militarists and people who'll pan it just to stand out from the crowd.
And to add insult to injury, the 3-D format discriminates against people with visual impairment. If you have a discrepancy in visual acuity between your eyes, you'll get a headache. If you have impaired vision in one eye, you can't watch the movie at all.
The whole enterprise is designed to make Cameron and his finaniers bigger gazillionaires than they already are. There's no deeper meaning to this movie than that.

Good points purrlgurrl, didn't think about that total vision insensitivity on their part.
Really, a lot of the criticism is overblown windbaggery and sometimes a movie is just a movie to paraphrase Freud. I didn't even include Alex Jones in the list, I guy I mostly agree with, and his "propaganda for a New World Order" stretch.
going to see the movie in the theaters for the 3D effect discriminates against the poor. i wonder...can i file a lawsuit?
I've heard on good authority that expectant young ladies with a certain glow about them will get in free if they say the secret password :)
