Spinning, Spiral Light Show Above Norway

"The mystery began when a blue light seemed to soar up from behind a mountain in the north of the country. It stopped mid-air, then began to move in circles. Within seconds a giant spiral had covered the entire sky. Then a green-blue beam of light shot out from its centre - lasting for ten to 12 minutes before disappearing completely.
Onlookers describing it as 'like a big fireball that went around, with a great light around it' and 'a shooting star that spun around and around'.
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute was flooded with telephone calls."

As usual, Sorcha over at WhatDoesItMean has an interesting take on what happened.

It could be a rare natural phenomena that has never caught the light in such a way before, so it has never been observed or captured by a camera before. Pretty close to the north pole and the northern central axis of the electromagnetic field of the planet. Northern lights from the twilight zone?

read through sorcha's piece. very interesting and highly probable. (for those interested in more i would suggest studying the works of william henry). coincidentally, on the night we first saw this air on television, mr. n put forth a very similar theory. whatever the cause, we both knew it was not a rocket spinning out of control.

"Russian space debris" replaced Venus and "swamp gas" about 20 years ago and is the default explanation now. Haven't done so, but a google search would be a lot of fun.
