Empire's Setback On The West African Coast

A country on the west side of Africa about the same size as Oregon is probably going to be in the news a lot more.

A coup overthrew the government of Guinea around Christmas last year, ending the cozy relationship they had with the US. The thuggish Lansana Conté had been dictator for 24 years but he was Washington's thug, so suppression of the country's ten million people wasn't a bad thing during his regime. In fact it was irrelevant because Guinea was the main transit point for american cocaine to get to europe. In fact, Guinea seemed to have been a major hub for lots of drug manufacturing and transportation, including Israel's specialty, ecstasy, according to this video:

Under Conté's dictatorship the usual american client state abuses occurred but apparently the drug profits smoothed it all over. And since the country is extremely rich in minerals, including an estimated half the world's supply of bauxite and untold amounts of offshore oil, empire was content.

There are coups, and then there are coups. The US enabled coup in Honduras that ousted José Manuel Zelaya Rosales was a good one because Zelaya was showing signs of independent thought, antithetical to corporate and military interests, and he was replaced with more compliant stooges. The bloodless coup in Guinea was a bad one because it upset the established apple cart and put the empire's drug operations and access to resources in jeopordy. Just last week Guinea inked a giant deal with China for a joint mining operation to exploit the aforementioned bauxite.
The horror.

So of course this won't stand.
Now admittedly, here is where it gets tough. Doing searches and banging away on a keyboard half a world away, I'm no expert on intrigue in Africa. However there is a tool to use to figure out what's going on. If you understand empire and are familiar with it's MO you can look at situations and figure them out. If a non compliant government is targeted, we will see certain things.

There was a protest on Sept 28 in Conakry where government forces opened fire and killed and wounded hundreds. The government said stampedes caused most of the deaths. The aftermath, including Hillary's denunciation and the excruciatingly lurid descriptions of behavior in MSM news lead me to suspect that the rioting was manufactured and the propaganda war has started in earnest. In fact it's probably a copy of what occurred in Iran in June when a girl was senselessly shot in broad daylight with a guy with a cell camera very conveniently trained on her. Propagandists use people as props. That girl's murder was exploited with suspicious swiftness. Rape as a political weapon isn't unknown in parts of Africa and accusations flew about government soldiers in Conakry, but you have to ask yourself - in broad daylight with the cameras rolling? Sounds like it was meant to focus your hatred and tug at your emotions which worked well in some quarters.
With both Iran and Guinea the social networks like Twitter were being used actively to attack the respective governments. And don't forget Guinea, like Iran, is predominantly muslim.

So it looks like empire was set back when it's drug outpost got yanked. Moussa Dadis Camara is the popular leader of the government that ousted the hated Conté and another thing we would expect to see is a bunch of hit pieces in corporate media. The NYT is apparently in the forefront of that task. Expect to have the country smeared pretty good in the coming weeks. Meanwhile the fascists seemed to have moved their operations next door:

"There is an increase in the number of drug cartels, many from Colombia, who are starting to use Sierra Leone as a base to ship drugs on to Europe."

You can bet the farm that forces are building right now that will try to overthrow Camara and safely return Guinea to it's rightful position as the preeminent fascist narco state in west Africa. As a matter of fact France advised all french nationals to leave the country a few days ago. (Place used to be a french colony) I would tend to think we'll soon hear that Guinea is a hotbed of Al Qaeda. Makes it all so much easier.

added 10/21 - Well, that didn't take long. Mali shares about 300 miles of border with Guinea.
