What Other Statistics Need To Be Updated As Well?

Unemployment, for one.

Poverty in America revised to 1 of 6

"One of six American live in poverty, a new report finds, leading to the implication that the US poverty level is even worse than first believed.
The National Academy of Science (NAS) formula calculates the poverty rate to be at 15.8 percent, or nearly 1 in 6 Americans, according to new estimates released this week. That's higher than the 13.2 percent, or 39.8 million, figure made available recently under the original US government formula, the Associated Press reports.
That government formula was created in 1955 and does not factor in the rising costs of medical care, transportation, child care or the geographical variations of living. Nor does it consider the non-cash governmental aid when calculating income."

It's official.

this is the issue i have with certain folks such as those amongst my own family who question why we're struggling, why we aren't homeowners, why we don't have medical insurance while they sit comfortably in retirement taking their yearly trips down south. comfortably because in their day, jobs were plentiful, insurance was affordable and provided with most all full-time employment and where a g.d. office clerk could afford a new little home in the suburbs. makes me want to spit in their arrogant, aloof, pretentious, utterly uncaring faces.

Totally different now. Self satisfied and smug people will refuse to understand we're in uncharted waters, and to be honest won't know that until they themselves are hit upside the head by a 2X4.
