Gold Medal Athlete Takes Back Mea Culpa Because The Money's Still There
Michael Phelps retracts marijuana apology
"In an unprecedented PR move, Olympic gold medalist and American swim champ, Michael Phelps, is retracting the apology he made earlier this week regarding his recent use of marijuana.
When pictures of 23 year old Phelps smoking marijuana surfaced this week, his handlers scrambled to issue a statement of apology. With 100 million dollars in endorsements potentially on the line, it’s a move that made sense to most people. That is, until the counter-offers started to roll in."
Why I couldn't care less about this story.
Efforts to portray this guy as a warrior in the forefront of legalization are extemely stupid. Pot will always be criminalized, it makes too much loot for the fascists who peddle it while keeping it illegal, and hemp threatens corporate interests, so forget it.

i predict many states will eventually decriminalize and, at some point, legalize. oregon's following cali with a ballot measure set for 2010 to create dispensaries for medi patients. once the state gov'ts realize the money to be earned, they'll roll over. the feds though, well yeah, that's a different story. too many men in black groups making $$ off of the way things are.
phelps doesn't need to be the poster boy for legalization. the whole story is yes, rather stupid. but he sure does help paint the picture of insanity behind federal drug policies.
woops--forgot to add--i think mj stands a better chance for legalization than hemp does due to, as you say, corporate interests/lobbyists.
The federal government would prefer you use cocaine, because those CIA contract pilots who fly it in could use the extra income, you know.
I worry that the whole world will go completely to hell before the fascist feds let people use mj legally. When that day comes, I won't be making allies with any DEA thugs, that's for sure.
They can all kiss mud and go straight to hell, cuz it's their fault the world is going to hell to begin with, and all they do is laugh about it.
Would you care about the story if you knew it was a spoof?
