Damage to fibre optic cable affects Internet

"LAHORE: Internet services throughout Pakistan were affected on Saturday after an undersea fibre optic cable, connecting Pakistan to the rest of the world, was cut near Egypt, Geo News reported. The channel quoted sources as saying Internet traffic was temporarily moved to a SMW 3 cable. Internet users faced hours of disruption. Ali Qadir Gilani, a spokesman for the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, told the channel later that the submarine cable had been restored and the system was fully operational now. daily times monitor."

Cables off the Egyptian coast seem to be targets of opportunity for someone.
Jeez, I wonder who that could be?

"NEW DELHI (AFP) — Another Middle East undersea Internet cable has been damaged, adding to disruption in Indian online services caused when several lines were cut earlier this week, a cable operating firm said Saturday."

There aren't too many nations and/or big shot agencies capable of this kind of sabotage. Seems quite unlikely that it could be blamed on AQ. Seems more probable that it's being done by either the US or Brits or other of its allies in the war. After all, it has a direct effect on communications leaving and entering the ME hotspots.

Rumsfeld admitted that he thought the internet was being used as a weapon. So, who would be more inclined to sabotage it, right?
