29 injured in Las Vegas bus crash

8/11/08 "LAS VEGAS (AP) — A bus crash south of Las Vegas has injured 29 people, four critically, after their employee shuttle swerved off the interstate and slammed into the center divider."

3 dead, dozens injured in Mississippi bus crash

8/10/08 "At least three people were killed and dozens injured Sunday when a casino bus carrying a group of tourists overturned in Mississippi near the Tennessee border."

Death toll in Texas bus crash rises to 17

8/9/08 " SHERMAN, Texas (CNN) -- A seventeenth person has died from injuries suffered in Friday's bus crash in northern Texas, a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday."

UK Scouts hurt in Canada bus crash

8/8/08 "A group of teenagers who were on a coach which smashed head-on into a lorry had a "lucky escape", a spokesman for the Scouts said.
The Scout group was travelling towards Toronto, Canada, when their coach and a lorry collided leaving 16 hurt."

not to sound completely cynical, but the epidemic of bus crashes and gun shootings are needed to continue to move the bad news of continuing home foreclosures, job losses, slowing economy off the frontpages. Now it's the race for Beijing goldmedals

"move along folks" even if you or your friends/relatives are out of work, losing their homes, even losing the right to cast their vote and have their vote count.

To paraphrase Gordon Gekko, cynical is good, and I think you're right on the money about the distractions, especially the shootings.
