Surprise! Bushistas Don't Want You To Know Where The Bloated Embassy Budget Went

White House blocks inquiry into construction of $736m embassy in Iraq

"The Bush administration is blocking an inquiry into the delay-plagued construction of the $736m US embassy in Baghdad, a senior Democrat in Congress said today.
Henry Waxman, who is chairman of the oversight committee in the House of Representatives, asked US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice today to explain why her department certified the embassy as "substantially completed" in December despite inspections that reveal continued deficiencies in the facility's water, fire alarm and kitchen systems.
The Baghdad embassy, which stands to become the largest US diplomatic facility in the world, had an original opening date of mid-2007. But the project stalled amid ballooning cost estimates as well as charges of corruption and shoddy work by the private contracting company overseeing the project.
In addition, two US state department employees who worked on the embassy project are now under criminal investigation."

Safe to say, Iran president Ahmadinejad's visit to Baghdad tomorrow won't have this white elephant in it's itinerary.

Speaking of which, does anyone else think this visit is fraught with danger? Usually all visiting dignitaries are whisked from the Baghdad airport by helicopter straight into the green zone. Ahmadinejad will convoy the seven or so miles on what the militarys labeled Route Irish, The Road Of Death, to a riverside compound belonging to Iraqi President Jalal Talabani..

The problem is, americans are responsible for road security and the airspace above. To say that anything can happen during this summit isn't an overstatement. The US has already shown it's willingness to arrest high level Iranian diplomats and it's no secret there are factions in this criminal cabal of ours that are salivating to get their war on with Iran. That country has been poked and prodded for years in the hopes that some retaliation from them could justify an all out ziofascist assault, all to no avail. Arresting Ahmadinejad for some phony reason like supposedly supplying the Iraqi resistance with roadside bombs isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Anything worse happening to the Iranian president would certainly set the middle east on fire, exactly what the fascists have been planning for years.
