Super Bowl Commercials Have Nothing On Classics

Cutesy pie animals, CGI, and spoofy fluff is the real action today, The Game is only the backdrop for these shameless ploys to separate you from your money. But aside from a handful of good concepts the commercials have been dreadfull, self consciously cool bad jokes over the years.

Ads from decades gone by didn't try to elicit a giggle so you'd buy their widgets, they were cruder and unself consciously went for the jugular.

In this one an entire domestic drama plays out. Man absolutely loathes his wife's coffee making ability and makes a thinly veiled threat to get it on with "the girls at work" who do the coffee right. "That's harsh!" "So's your coffee!" Woman switches brands and he agrees to have sex with her after all.

What drama and tension! The pathos! Romance! And they did it all without special effects.
Patriarchal pandering? At least it wasn't the 50s.
