Forgotten History Lesson
A World War 2 War Department handbook has been found in the Southern Methodist University digital archives that was given to soldiers fighting the Germans in Iraq at the time. With chapter titles like "Meet the People" and "Iraqi Customs and Manners" the whole purpose of the pamphlet was to get the GIs to treat Iraqis decently and to earn their trust.
But of course with current top down thuggishness, these historical admonitions are vivid reminders of just how much we've lost.
