The Wilhelm Scream
In 1951 a picture called "Distant Drums" directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Gary Cooper was made. In the flick a fellow named Wilhelm takes an Indian's arrow and a sound effect scream was later added.
Being a stock sound effect the scream was later added to a number of movies, so much so that it's become a cult favorite that directors like Tarentino and Spielberg go out of their way to use. It's probably true that billions of people have heard the scream.
