My father knew Ike when they went to Columbia U together. He even came to our house with his wife and kids when I was real small.
He was pretty harsh with his son, a thing my dad always mentioned, very sadly, when his name came up - also, my dad thought Ike wro recordte so many books for the purpose of breaking records for sheer #s of bookss.
Still, dad cared for him - mourned his passing - he was just critical of many things about the man.
(My dad would have been 87 his last birthday too, but he's been gone 3 1/2 years now)
That's very interesting about the man. I didn't know he went by the name Ike. My father is about 87 also. I guess there's some controversy about the number of books he wrote - a lot of anthologies he either partially or completely didn't contribute to. His seminal works stand out in my childhood SF reading lists.
