Movies

All That's Wrong With American Cinema

I bought an external hard drive with a terrabyte of storage and am pretty busy filling it up with movies. As a matter of fact I'm probably going to buy another one because there are so many flicks to save and savor that 1000 gigs isn't enough to store them all for when the system breakdown happens and board and card games won't be enough to keep me and the mrs from going batshit crazy. It's very easy to do, actually. Basically any movie you want is available online if you know how to download them. My predilections range from westerns to sci-fi to noir to documentaries to classics to comedies, you name it.

This year I've seen Hollywood go into terminal, cancerous decline. It's pretty bad. I know we're just coming out of the idiotic summer blockbuster extravaganza months, but it seems to be extending into a year round silly season. I mean superhero, comic book, collect all figurines at McDonalds garbage. Avengers, Thor, Transformers, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Green Lantern, Green Hornet, Captain America and on and on. Please.

We've degraded into an permanently adolescent mindset that needs to see the world as we feel it should be. It allows the manipulators to have their way while we sit back and think some force will fly in and make right while we cheer them on, never actually realizing the hero is actually the villain in disguise, and the fairy tale ending is just the beginning of worse to come.

It's been horrid lately matty.
Actually I think the 70s was a pretty good year for cinema but it really went downhill from there, to where all we can look forward to is Saw #7. In 3D.

Nolo,

Its just movies bro... they really dont carry that much weight. They are just an escape, i know and i wish the quality was better, but well, its either black comedies or superhero crap or zombie/ vampire shit.
You said it yourself, the end or the means to the end is near and continues, however here is a short list of some past great movies that are still worth a good mention. True Grit / There will be blood / Shawshank Redem / bladerunner / big lebowski / schndlers list etc.

Good list anon. I'd add basically all the rest of the Coen bros efforts, Brazil, Unforgiven, The Matrix and many others but it seems comic book adaptations have taken over this year to the detriment of true inventiveness. They pour billions into churning the childishness out one after another knowing an effective ad campaign trumps real movie making, which is why most of my downloads are classics and documentariess at this point. Although I must admit I've been having a good time streaming action movies but not storing them.

Had no idea who Ms Smith was until I just looked her up at IMDB Matty.
