Libya: Coalition forces prepare two-pronged blitz to finish off Gaddafi
"The first daytime bombing raid on the Libyan capital Tripoli on Saturday morning heralded a new stage in the military campaign against the Gaddafi regime.
It hit a military storage base in the centre of Tripoli that has been subject of repeated raids all week.
But a military spokesman said a separate mission the night before had taken out watchtowers on the leadership's Bab al-Azizia compound and threatened to begin opening up its miles of bleak green-painted concrete walls up by precision bombing.
"Last night's action sends a powerful message to the regime's leadership and to those involved in delivering Colonel Gaddafi's attacks on civilians that they are no longer hidden away from the Libyan people behind high walls," Major-General John Lorimer, spokesman for the chief of defence staff, said."
It's a laugh riot, isn't it, that "coalition" (you have to admire the fascists for sticking to a term that focus groups identify as warm and cuddly) stormtroopers are smashing and crashing through populated areas in an effort, as they tell us, to protect civilians. It's like psychotic rethugs in american politics projecting everything they hate about themselves on everyone else, creating misery out of thin air, only in Libya it's not just bullshit rhetoric. There seems to be a slight discrepency between NATO's pious pronouncements and reality on the ground:
"Former French foreign minister Roland Dumas visited Libya as a lawyer to prepare a legal case on behalf of victims of NATO bombing and said he was prepared to defend leader Muammar Gaddafi if he is sent to The Hague.
"At the moment we have been retained, we have a mandate on behalf of the victims of the military bombardment of NATO, who carried out their military action against civilians with the artificial -- very artificial -- cover of the United Nations," Dumas said."
Of course the excuse for this whole murder spree is a crock of shit, just like all empire's justifications are crocks of shit, and have been for a long, long time.
There was an era when psychopaths didn't feel the need to pretty up their criminal behavior, perhaps exemplified by this memo from Winston Churchill to the War Office in 1919:
*I do not understand this sqeamishness about the use of gas. I am strongly in favour of using poison gas against uncivilised tribes.."
