Sadistic Sheriff Finds New Way To Piss On Prisoners

Arizona Sheriff Arpaio has inmates pedal bicycles to generate power for TV viewing

"PHOENIX - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has started a program he calls "Pedal Vision," in which inmates pedal stationary bikes to generate electricity for television sets. The bikes are customized to turn on connected TV sets once inmates at Phoenix's Tent City Jail pedal enough to generate 12 volts of electricity. An hour of pedaling equals an hour of television.
Arpaio said inmates only will be able to watch television if they choose to pedal.
He said he started the program with female inmates because they seemed more receptive."

Sure, I know some people reading that will think to themselves well hell, what's wrong with saving on electricity and giving the inmates some exercise?
I take great issue with prisoner mistreatment. Once the state decides to confine citizens in prison it's duty bound to treat them well and counter productive not to. That includes mentally as well as physically well. Troglodytes who get hard ons about tough law and order and who laud abusive fascists like Arpaio would bring back whippings and starvation if they could.
Making convicts pedal for television is a small step from forcing them to work or supply favors for everyday necessities. Think that wouldn't happen? In 2008 federal courts found Arpaio guilty of constitutional violations after he reduced the number of inmate meals to two a day. There's a long list of humiliations that this sadist sheriff seems to enjoy doing to inmates under his supervision, the number of whom doubled since he first became top cop

INMATE'S DEATH PUTS SPOTLIGHT ON ARIZONA'S `TOUGHEST' SHERIFF

"He houses prisoners in sweltering tents, feeds them green bologna sandwiches and dresses them in pink underwear. He bans coffee, skin magazines and R-rated movies, and dispatches chain gangs in old-style striped uniforms to cut weeds and paint curbs."
"But now Arpaio is being accused of running a jail that's too tough. The FBI and the county attorney's office are investigating whether his officers crossed the line when they subdued and allegedly killed an inmate and then tried to cover it up."
