Cops Can Never Be In The Wrong, Even When They Kill Their Own Dogs
Officer in anguish over death of NOPD dog; investigation ongoing
"NEW ORLEANS – The Metropolitan Crime Commission has asked District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro to investigate the death of a K-9 Unit dog that died as a result of heat stroke.
A report by a veterinarian that was given to the MCC said that on May 27 K-9 Primo, a six-year-old Belgian Malinois, was brought into Lakeview Veterinary Hospital and collapsed. It was having trouble breathing and had a temperature of 109.8 degrees.
The dog, according to the report, died as a result of heat stroke after he was left unattended inside a NOPD vehicle.
After MCC President Rafael Goyenche was given the report, along with photos that showed the inside of the NOPD SUV was shredded by Primo while trying to escape the broiling vehicle, Goyenche called on Cannizzaro to launch an investigation into the death.
"At no time, at no time, would we neglect any of our animals," said NOPD Superintendent Warren Riley.
Riley said the K-9 vehicle comes fitted with equipment that is designed to make the ventilators go on, the windows go down and a fan turn on as soon as the temperatures go above 87 degrees inside the vehicle. Riley said it happens automatically.
Riley said the vehicle that Primo was in was tested immediately, and all systems were working in the car."
what the dying dog did to the car that was working perfectly
"Also at issue, according to Goyenche’s letter to Cannizzaro, were the circumstances surrounding the death of two other K-9 dogs – K-9 Phantom that died after plunging 18 floors down an elevator shaft in a training exercise and another dog, K-9 Carlos, that died from heart worms."

what a deplorably tragic situation. i've never supported the use of dogs being used in police work. gross negligence all around.

The feeling I'm constantly getting with these stories is that manufactured cop infallibility in the public eye literally trumps everything. It's contrived importance to the fascists is so important that taking it to insane extemes is having exactly the opposite effect.
