Our dependency upon automobiles and oil has become a social, economic, and cultural conflict. It has to be resolved somehow, we can't just ignore it and hope it will go away.

Human civilization should include more options. Having to choose between paying the rent or paying for an automobile to keep up with the competition should not be a major economic problem to begin with.

We were fools to let the automobile and oil industries have so much control over our civilization and culture to begin with. Now our dependency on those things has made the automobile the dominant species on our planet and the oil kings the masters.
