Some Sort Of Internet Explorer Attack Underway
For the last several hours there's been something that keeps internet explorer from opening selected sites across the board. The infected site begins to load and then an error message pops up saying explorer can't open it. Firefox seems to be unaffected by this.
It seems to be mostly bloggers, with some people assuming Blogger has blocked their sites as spam, but blogs like Alicublog, Skippy, Lawyers Guns and Money, and Jesus' General who I believe don't use Blogger are also affected. Other blogs like Digby and Blondesense, which are hosted on Blogger, open just fine with explorer. News sites I went to don't have this problem.
The attack doesn't seem to be political in nature, with rightosphere places like Malkin under siege too. Workers I spoke with at a big local corporation are experiencing failure in opening certain sites also.
Added - It was sitemeter. Thanks to Musings and Observations for the explanation.

Everyone should get rid of IE and use Firefox. :-)
Safari is now also available for pcs and Opera is quite good.
I haven't used ie in ages because I had such problems with it. I rarely use my PC since I bought my new Macbook. I doubt I ever buy a windows machine again.
Whatever problem it was apparently is fixed now. Most of my blogroll was inaccessible with IE and it wasn't just my browser. Firefox is so much better and I'd like to try the others you mention.
I'm going to stick with a pc, Lesley, but the next one for me will be a custom machine, not a cookie cutter flop like I'm using now.
i'm going with a mac next time. it's what i first started on. i also have no plans on ever using a windows based program either. i've heard good things about linux. at least from the computer technies i know.
we have a custom build pc. the place royally ripped us off (discovered well after the fact), so you have to know your stuff.
