What's Going On In The Sky?
Strange atmospheric phenomena have increased in frequency lately. The latest oddness is the report of multicolored snow falling on over 500 square miles in Russia several days ago.
When things happen in these highly charged times, mostly in all the conflicts and wars raging around the globe but also with strange occurrences, our gatekeepers rush in to offer up their prosaic and safe assurances that everything is just humming along. Nothing to see here, move along now, things aren't what they seem, it's just your lying eyes again. It's a daily exercise in Iraq. There's been a six decade long fight about those strange objects up there that aren't all just swamp gas or the planet Venus. 9/11 was nineteen swarthy guys with tiny knives so just stop it with the questions. It's as if all the rigid and moribund institutions are scared to death that people will escape the stifling dogmas and think for themselves.
With this snow the 'official' explanation was that winds blowing off the steppes picked up dust that colored it. But initial reports had a curious aspect to it:
"The snow, which fell Wednesday, was yellow, green and orange and had an oily texture and unpleasant smell, the emergency situations ministry said."
But not to worry, it's perfectly harmless. And all that dust in the air over Manhattan after 9/11?
Everything was fine.
There have been other oddities that our officials and experts either try to explain away or just ignore. Red rain fell in India in 2001. The familiar dust reason was floated but curious cellular structures were found in the rainwater that resembled life forms, but lacked nucleii.
In the last couple months thousands of birds dropped dead out of the sky in widely varying places. In Australia, "The main casualties are wattle birds, yellow-throated miners, New Holland honeyeaters and singing honeyeaters, although some dead crows, hawks and pigeons have also been found." Necropsies showed nothing. In Idaho, "..over 2,000 mallard ducks were discovered dead along a remote creek outside of Oakley, Idaho, which is about 180 miles southeast of Boise and just north of the Utah border." Fungus and/or chemicals are blamed. Police closed streets in Austin, Texas last month as grackles, sparrows and pigeons rained down dead. No one knows why.
A month ago some rotten smell got people very worried in the New York area.
"Schools and office buildings were evacuated. A subway station was shut and commuter trains were re-routed. Government security officials were put on alert. Fire engines raced through the streets, while Coast Guard vessels patrolled New York Harbour.
Twelve people were taken to hospital after complaining of minor illnesses or injuries.
Michael Williams, an accountant who works in Jersey City, said he had delayed taking a smoking break for more than an hour because the odour was so intense.
"I didn't want to spark an explosion or anything," he said."
No explanation for this event was offered.
Is there an upsurge in UFO activity lately? Iran claims one crashed there in January. Something hovered over O'Hare Airport in Chicago but the government isn't interested. Googling for sightings brings up a lot of them. They may be tossing their garbage out the portals because a mysterious chunk of metal crashed through a roof in New Jersey and no one knows what it is.
And of course there's no shortage of freakish weather to marvel at. A hurricane in the northwest in December, February tornadoes in Florida, midwinter budding in the northeast. Something very strange is happening all over the world, but whether it all ties together in one neat package remains to be seen. One thing I know is I'm going to take the 'official' explanations with a large dose of salt. I believe we're in uncharted waters here and we'll see a lot more of this bizarre stuff that will frustrate all our usual assumptions.

right on, bloggerman. you're not the only one following this. i agree with your speculations. they seem very appros for the times. keep on sleuthing. you're providing a sorely needed voice in this time of official hush-ups.

I gotta 'gree with your premise. Seems that twenty five years here in Alaska and last week the first time I 've seen 62 degrees F at the end of Jan. Record setting variations of temps, large fluctuations. I'm a maintenance mechanic by trade, and I've always noticed that when things come apart they usually start small, a piece here, a piece there with increasing breakage and noise untill the thing fails completely. Maybe were seeing the small starting pieces flying off, as it were. I fear for the future, if any exists for mankind. Can you imagine a universe that forgets about mankind? One where all trace of human thought disappears? No shakspere, no religion (that's good), no honor, nothing of mankinds little humors left at all. A mute earth slowly swallowing all traces of a species hell bent on destroying itself. It's very sad.

kerryinalaska - I think you're spot on with that systems breakdown analogy. We've lost the ability to put two and two together and just accept 'official' explanations for scenarios that should really alarm us.
