The Empire Strikes Bush

The final Star Wars flick was released on DVD today and I and Mrs Piglipstick determined that we were forced to watch it. I must say the last two prequals were sheer torture, absolutely mind numbing and insulting losers that probably had fans of the classic flicks recoiling in horror.

The special effects were as good as they always were in the franchise, and Lucas did manage to pull the story together to segue into the first movie. The young actors managed to add a small amount of color to their previous efforts and overall the story flowed quickly and painlessly by. Overall I couldn't have cared less for any of the principles onscreen, and that was exacerbated by the fact that everyone watching this prequal knows how the damn thing ends anyway.

But Whoa! Some of the dialogue made me sit up and take notice. I actually hadn't known about the parallels between the movie and the fascist takeover in Amurrca.

This line as Padme listens to Palpatine in the senate made the 2 hours worthwhile - "This is how liberty dies -- to thunderous applause." Other sly references and situations clearly referenced the traitors in Washington, although I guess Lucas maintains that the script was written 30 years ago during the Nixon nightmare. He also adds that history repeats itself.
Fortunately there was no JarJar Binks.
